Cosmetic facial treatment consists of all cosmetic surgical procedures to improve the imperfections of the face & neck. These imperfections can be saggy skin, fine or prominent wrinkles, puffy or droopy eyelids or chubby face. We provide a range of safe and result oriented face-lift procedures with the help of the latest procedures, advanced technologies and experienced plastic surgeons at the Medstar Aesthetics and Multispeciality Centre. We recommend consulting our plastic and cosmetic surgeon for suitable treatment guidance as per the concern of the patient.

  • The eyebrow and forehead area of the face gets stressed easily and loses skin elasticity faster than other facial features resulting in frown lines, wrinkles and abnormal thickness of eyebrows. All these imperfections result in tired or sad facial expression or early ageing signs. A brow lift or forehead lift are advised to get rid of such imperfections.
  • The consulting surgeon will guide you and help in creating a personalized treatment plan that suits your needs.

  • Eyelid surgery is also known as blepharoplasty or eyelid lift is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to get rid of crêpey eye skin, drooping eyelids, puffy bags, and dark circles under the eyes.
  • Blepharoplasty is usually performed as a single procedure although your surgeon may also recommend a brow lift, facelift or skin resurfacing for best results. Upper and lower eyelid surgeries are usually performed in separate procedures.

  • A facelift or rhytidectomy help in correcting the sagging in the skin of the face, fix deep creases below the lower eyelids as well as deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth. It also improves the loss of skin tone in the lower face that leads to jowls.
  • This type of surgery is also useful for refining and correcting loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw that can give even a slim person the appearance of a double chin. More often than not, the deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted. Skin is then re-hung over the elevated shapes, and overabundance skin is trimmed away.

  • Otoplasty helps in enhancing the shape, position or extent of the ear. It is used to correct to reshape ears distorted due to injury, natural abnormal shape of ears for cosmetic purpose.
  • Otoplasty is also an appropriate option for those who have a significant difference in the size, prominence or symmetry between their two ears.
  • The specialists of our cosmetic surgery clinic will perform this ear correction surgery to adjust the size, position, and proportion of the ears according to the face and concern of the patient.

Noses are such a prominent facial feature and if you don’t like yours it can really affect your confidence and self-esteem. Also known as a nose job, rhinoplasty can alter the size, shape and angle of the nose according to the proportion of the face. This is a good option for people who think that their nose is too big, too small, or who may have nose bumps or indentations they want to be removed. It is also used for restoring the shape of a distorted nose due to trauma.

An upper lip lift procedure elevates the position of the upper lip to create a relaxed and cheerful smile by shortening the distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose. It increases the amount of ‘pink lip’ seen and exposing the teeth more, giving the patient fuller and younger-looking lips. Lip-lift enhances the overall aesthetics of the face by beautifully enhancing the smile of the patient.

The facial implant includes cheek, jaw, and chin implants that are used to enhance facial features like cheeks or jawline. Due to an ageing or stressed lifestyle face can show signs of loose skin, loss of muscle tone and facial fat resulting in a tired and old appearance of the face. These implants help in achieving a tight, smooth & toned youthful appearance of the face.

What are cosmetic facial procedures?

The cosmetic facial procedure consists of several cosmetic procedures to correct the deep lines, wrinkles, sagging skin & fine lines of the face and neck. It also includes reshaping the ear, nose, eyelids, cheeks, and jawlines. All these procedures help in achieving a younger face appearance and delay the process of ageing surgically.

When are cosmetic facial procedures needed?

Surgical cosmetic facial procedures are recommended when conventional non-surgical treatments like Botox, Fillers, and Threads fails to achieve the desired results. Cosmetic facial procedures help in getting rid of:

  • Wrinkles, deep lines, and smile lines on the forehead, near eyes, mouth, and neck
  • Sagging and loose facial skin
  • Tired or sad expression on the face
  • Double chin appearance due to loose skin
  • Sagging appearance of your cheeks
  • Deep skin folds running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth
  • Sagging skin and excess fat in the neck
  • Abnormal shape of nose and ear

Are You Eligible for cosmetic facial treatment?

Cosmetic facial treatments increase the facial value of the patient. Anybody who is 35+ years old is eligible for these procedures. The patient can consider cosmetic facial treatments for:

  • Tighter & youthful appearance of face and neck
  • More defined facial features like nose and ears
  • Emotional boost to the people who have always had a saggy face
  • Wrinkles and deep lines on the face and neck
  • Tired facial expression
  • The older appearance of the face

The patient is not eligible for cosmetic facial treatments if:

  • The patient is expecting drastic change since it is not going to alter facial features but tighten them up
  • The patient has lost skin elasticity or has lots of sun damage, then the skin might not be able to tolerate cosmetic procedures.
  • If the patient is suffering from a chronic medical condition like diabetes, heart diseases
  • If the patient is a smoker since it slows down the healing process. The patient must quit smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure.

However, it is the surgeon’s duty to guide the patient & walk him through the various steps of the procedure along with the Dos & Don’ts while keeping in mind the patient's medical history. To achieve desired results with minimal complications, make sure to go to a certified & experienced surgeon.

What is the procedure of cosmetic facial treatment?

  • The general steps of a cosmetic facial treatment are:
    • Administration of local or general anaesthesia
    • The surgeon makes an incision along the natural creases on the face for minimum scarring or on the parts of the face where scars can be hidden easily like, behind the ears.
    • Then the surgeon gently pulls the skin to remove excess fat or skin or cartilage or to place an implant.
    • The incisions are carefully closed with sutures & staples for minimum post-treatment scarring. If needed, excess fluids & blood are drained with the help of a drain placed under the skin for a couple of days.
    • Bandages are applied to assist in healing
  • Any cosmetic facial treatment can take 2-5 hours & patients can go home on the same day.

What are the various options for treatment at MEDSTAR?

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to raise eyebrows surgically. It can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic facial procedures. There are different brow lift techniques, and the surgeon decides the best technique based on the patient's requirement. Various techniques of a brow lift are:

  1. Endoscopic brow lifts: In this technique, the surgeon will make a small incision behind the hairline, and through this, a long thin tube with a light and a tiny camera is inserted to view underlying muscles and tissues. The surgeon lifts forehead tissues through another incision and anchors them in place with sutures or small screws. Incisions are then closed with stitches or small clips.
  2. Coronal brow lifts: In this technique, the surgeon will make an incision behind the hairline across the top of the head, from ear to ear, or primarily on the top of the head and lift the forehead into its new position, with the scalp in front of the incision overlapping the scalp behind it. The overlapping extra scalp is then removed, and the remaining scalp is stitched together. This procedure is not recommended in people who have high hairlines, thin hair, or who are likely to lose their hair.
  3. Hairline brow lifts: In this technique, the surgeon will make an incision between the top of the forehead and the beginning of the hairline. Then a small amount of skin and tissue from the top of the forehead is removed, and the hairline is reserved. This is used in cases of the high receding hairline.

Upper and lower eyelid surgery are used to treat droopy eyelids, excess fat, and puffiness around the eyes. This surgery is also known as blepharoplasty.

In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes an incision along the fold of the eyelid, removes excess skin, muscle, and possibly fat, and then stitches back. On the lower lid, the surgeon cuts just below the lashes in the eye's natural crease or inside the lower lid and removes or redistributes excess fat, muscle, and sagging skin, and closes the surgical incision.

Visit the blepharoplasty page (link) for more information.

  • A face-lift procedure helps elevate the skin and tighten the underlying tissues and muscles. In this procedure, excess fat in the face and neck may be sculpted, removed or redistributed. Facial skin is then stitched over the newly repositioned contours of the face.
  • Types of incisions are:
    • traditional facelift incision starts at the temples in the hairline, continues down and around the front of the ears, and ends behind the ears in the lower scalp. It is also made under the chin to improve the appearance of the neck.
    • limited incision is a short incision that is made in the hairline just above the ear, wraps around the front of the ear, but does not extend all the way into the lower scalp.
    • Neck lift incision starts in front of the earlobe and continues around-ear into the lower scalp. Another small incision is also made under the chin.
  • Mini-facelift: This facelift surgery is used to work on wrinkles and sagging skin on the lower third of the face using small incisions that are made around the ears. This procedure helps to restore the chin shape by removing excess tissue and skillfully tightening the remaining tissue. One of our skilled plastic surgeons will perform a mini facelift to give the patient a youthful, rejuvenated appearance that accentuates natural beauty and boost confidence.
  • Mid-Facelift: A mid-facelift focuses on the face area that extends from the cheekbones to the jaw. Using incisions similar to those found in a mini facelift, the surgeon will tighten the mid and lower muscles of the face as well as the overlying tissues to restore the definition of the cheeks, reducing the prominence of the smile lines that run from underneath the nose to the corners of the mouth.

In this surgery, under anesthesia, excess cartilage and skin are removed and the remaining cartilage is folded and stitched internally for the desired shape of the ear. After reshaping the ear, external incisions are stitched back. In this surgery, external incisions are made on the backs or inner creases of the ear.

  • In this procedure, the surgeon will make a small incision on the nose through which the bone and cartilage of the nose are reshaped. Excess cartilage is removed or added as grafts to change the shape of the nose on the patient. After reshaping, the surgeon places the nose's skin and tissue back and stitches the incisions in the nose.
  • If the wall (septum) between the two nostrils is bent or crooked (deviated), the surgeon can also correct it to improve breathing. This surgery is called septoplasty.

Direct lip lift, sometimes called a gullwing lip lift, is used to create a more defined lip border. A thin strip of skin is removed just above the upper lip, and the skin is pulled upwards, creating the more pronounced pink part of the lips. This procedure leaves a scar on the upper lip area.

Subnasal bullhorn is one of the common lip lift procedures, in which a surgeon will make an incision along the base of the nose in the shape of a bullhorn, and the center, right, and left of the lip are all pulled up toward the nose.

central lip lift shortens the space between the nose and the lips by an incision at the lower nose like a subnasal bullhorn lip lift.

A corner lip lift, sometimes called a “grin lift”, gives the face a more smiley appearance. In this procedure, the surgeon will make two small incisions at both corners of the mouth and remove a small amount of skin. It is recommended for people with downturned lips.

An Italian lip lift is very similar to the bullhorn lip lift, but in this lip lift, two incisions are made below each nostril, wrestling in invisible scars.

A facial implant is a surgery to enhance the appearance of the face using sculpted prostheses. It is used for cosmetic reasons and to reconstruct facial features. Facial implants include:

  • Cheek implants are used to reshape the cheeks and overall face shape.
  • Chin implants are used to increase the size or projection of the chin.
  • Forehead implants are used to create a more youthful appearance by lifting forehead skin.
  • Jaw implants are used to increase the width of the lower face and define lower jawlines.
  • Nose implants are used to increase the projection of the nose tip or widen the nose bridge.

Pre-operative instructions:

  • Patients will be asked to stop blood-thinning medications like aspirin, which may lead to bleeding complications.
  • The patient will be asked to quit smoking at least 2 weeks before the surgery.
  • The patient must arrange for a mode of transportation to drive them home

Post-operative instructions:

  • The patient will experience mild post-treatment symptoms like pain, swelling, redness, and bleeding. These common symptoms will subside in 7- 10 days on their own and with prescribed medications.
  • Apply an ice pack on the surgery area to relieve swelling.
  • Avoid sleeping on the side & sleep on your back only
  • Take prescribed medications regularly and follow the instructions given by the surgeon strictly.
  • Avoid physical activities till the recovery period is over
  • Call the surgeon immediately in case any unusual symptoms occur like severe pain, swelling, bleeding, and pus discharge from surgical wounds.

Mild symptoms of pain, swelling, bleeding and redness are expected after facial cosmetic treatment. These symptoms resolve on their own, by prescribed medications and by strictly following instructions. Successful facial treatments by our experienced surgeons help get a younger appearance of the patient. These treatments can easily make the patient look 5-10 years younger than their actual age. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and taking care of the skin helps maintain long-lasting results.

Can facelift cause hair loss?

Facelift surgery is safe with mild complications like pain, swelling, bleeding, and redness that resolve in a couple of weeks. Hair loss at the site of incision is a potential complication of facial cosmetic treatments. But it will not cause hair loss from the scalp unless the scalp is involved in the facelift.

Will facelift remove wrinkles?

Yes, a facelift helps in removing the wrinkles on the face. Wrinkles are caused by loose skin due to ageing, high sun exposure, or dehydration. In this procedure, loose or saggy skin is surgically removed, and the remaining skin is pulled and stitched. The scars are hidden or invisible as the incisions are made on the natural skin creases of the face.

How often do you need a facelift?

Facelift results can last 7-10 years in most cases. The life of results depends upon the skin elasticity and tone of the patient. Facelift results last more in patients having good skin elasticity. Also, sun exposure, dehydration, and irregular skincare routine can decrease the longevity of results. Regular skincare and a healthy lifestyle help maintain the results for a longer time.

Where are facelift scars located?

Scars after facelift treatment are invisible or hidden. An experienced surgeon will skillfully make the incisions along the hairline and natural creases of the face, neck, and ear resulting in hidden scars. Rarely these scars can turn into raised or pigmented, which are treated with steroids injections to minimize them.

How to lift the droopy face?

A droopy face or tired expression of the face can be corrected by facial cosmetic procedures. The droopy face is caused by loose skin and wrinkles with or without droopy eyelids and a downward lip line. All these causes can be treated/corrected by the range of cosmetic procedures available at MEDSTAR. We have a facelift, brow lift, eyelid lift, and lip lift surgery options to help patients in achieving a fresh smiling and youthful appearance.

Can fillers lift the face?

Fillers are biocompatible substances that are injected under the facial skin to get rid of wrinkles. Yes, fillers can help in lifting the facial skin non-surgically but temporarily. The patient will have to retake the filler injection after the body absorbs them in a couple of years. The long-lasting treatment of lifting the facial skin is the facelift. Visit our cosmetic surgery clinic for consultation and guidance by our experts.

What are the complications of cosmetic facial treatments?

Like any other surgical procedures, cosmetic facial treatments can have side effects that vanish after the recovery period, which can be up to 4 weeks. Rare complications of cosmetic facial treatment are:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Numbness
  • Hair loss near the incision
  • Numbness
  • Anesthesia complications
  • Facial nerves damage
  • Asymmetry in face
